I like big blogs and I cannot lie! So hard to narrow this one down, but here we go…
I always enjoy shooting the various details of a wedding. It often blows me away to see the amount of time and energy that went into some of the smallest little touches. And I get crazy excited to take fun portraits of the bride and groom. That’s where I get to go wild with ideas, composition, lighting, and horrible jokes. But capturing genuine, unposed moments is the driving force that keeps me shooting weddings. A quick glance between newlyweds, the little kids busting moves on the dance floor, Grandpa’s face when he sees his granddaughter truly grown up…for me, it doesn’t get any better than that. These are the true detail shots. These are the most telling portraits. The challenge of keeping an eye on every aspect of the day…keeping my finger on the shutter…anticipating the reactions before they happen….it’s more of a thrill than I had ever imagined. I’m so extremely humbled by the opportunity (and responsibility) to document the moments that are so often missed or forgotten. These are the moments that when revisited tell the true story of a wedding day.
So, instead of showing you my best work of 2013, I’ve put together my favorite moments. Some of the shots aren’t perfectly lit or composed, some are downright ridiculous, but each one is an authentic and unposed frame that hopefully resonates not only with the couples, friends, and family, but with anyone who sees a glimpse of their own wedding, their own relationship, their own crazy friends, or even their dog (there’s one in there!). Twenty thirteen has been an incredible year for me, and I’m so excited to show you a few moments from every wedding I shot this year. So, here they are in no particular order…enjoy!
(Huge thanks to my second shooters who contributed so much throughout the year! Kate Cahail Photography, Gena Appleby Photography, Jill Tiongco Photography, and Memorable Jaunts.)
First wedding of the year, and no doubt it was the best dance-off I’d see! Dave got iced! “You give makeup lessons?!”
Dad’s first look… And then the groomsmen played craps in the hotel lobby… Ben quietly writing down his vows before the wedding day chaos began… Whoa, who’s that good looking drummer…?! Ben later told me he was worried his pants were about to fall down… Kim and her ladies singing Spice Girls! A bridesmaid’s father saves the day (and the dresses) by snowblowing a path to the limo!
Got to put the camera down and cut a rug at my sister’s wedding! Just using a bouquet brooch as an earring…typical reception stuff…
